Are you among one of those who are really panicky about anything that happens beside you? Do you have an obsessive fear of turning insane and does this often follow with tingling sensations in your hands and arms. Do you suffer from a shortness of breath and you have a perpetual fear of having a heart attack. If you have any of these symptoms then my guess is you can have a panic attack coming your way.

So, what is a panic attack? For most people it would be a phobia of some kind, either towards a particular object or something that can affect you negatively in life. The cause of a panic attack is still quite unknown as different people may react to different treatments, because there are various ways panic can actually attack you.

Other than relaxation techniques like breathing and exercises, treatments like psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy are considered important because they help in getting the patients understand their disease and take care of it themselves. It has often been found that psychotherapy alone can cure your disease, because this helps in reducing your fear towards the object that causes you the fear.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a therapy that involves the use of muscle relaxation techniques and different forms of breathing techniques and this is how they help the patients deal with their stress. A common fear of these patients suffering from panic attacks is that they are constantly under the fear that they might have a heart attack any moment now.

It has been found that anti depressants help in reducing the anxiety and even the severity with which panic attacks come upon someone. The SSRI or serotonin reuptake inhibitors group of medicines like Prozac and Paxilare often termed as the best medicines that people suffering from panic attacks should take. As these medicines can also cause symptoms of panic attack, it is best to take a small dosage in the beginning and slowly increase the dosage of medication. Medication is as important as natural therapies like breathing and muscle control techniques because medication can bring immediate stress relief and deal with any situation that the patient might have.

The prevention or rather the preparation of panic attacks is definitely in the hands of the patient. One of the main priorities for patients suffering from panic attacks is to understand the reasons why the attacks happen and take medication accordingly. One must also breathe deeply to help soothe ones nerves. One should always avoid stimulants like caffeine r coffee as they have an adverse effect and can get you more panicked. It is important to realize that the therapy times and there so such cure which is fast and short. One should never be too critical of themselves and be prepared for any attacks that might just happen. The above mentioned tips can really help you prepare for a panic attack and identify the symptoms which would later lead to medication.
